Shayna Briseno-Brooks is part of external relations as Step Up’s communications associate. Her position involves supporting the creative team in order to reach goals and boost engagement.

Prior to joining Step Up, Shayna received her B.A in political science from California State University, Long Beach. During her undergraduate career, Shayna spent time working with local nonprofits that focused on building resiliency in low-income neighborhoods. From this work, she gained insight into how many people in these communities live without access to basic necessities such as food, clean clothes, and shelter. These experiences showed Shayna that her political science degree meant nothing if she did not use it to further the wellness of the most oppressed communities.

Shayna is a proud Long Beach, California native and is based in Step Up’s Los Angeles office. Her other interests include watching movies, baking, and recreational jogging.

My mentor showed me that meaningful work gets done when judgment and assumptions are left at the door. She taught me that leadership is not leadership without inclusion and support for everyone.

I most enjoy the dedication that Step Up as an organization has to creating an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive culture. I am lucky to have the opportunity to serve with such exceptional women.
