March Educator's Digest

March is Women's History Month! At Step Up, we're all about uplifting, supporting, and empowering women and girls – but it wouldn't be possible without those who came before us who shaped history, broke barriers, and inspired us to persevere. We're proud to foster a community of women who make a lasting impact every day.

Fellow Highlight

Name: Brianna Snow

Role at school: Culture Specialist/Teacher At Large

Number of years at school: 3 years

In our interview with Step Up fellow Brianna Snow, we asked her about her experience being a fellow and got an inside look at what it's like leading Step Up Girls!

Q: Why do you think Step Up on Campus is a good fit for Muchin College Prep?

A: I believe Step Up on Campus is a great fit for MCP because of the sense of community it brings to our youth. This program not only allows scholars the opportunity to explore different career paths and the endless possibilities for success, but it also offers connectedness and a sense of community beyond the program itself.

Q: Why did you decide to become a fellow?

A: I decided to become a fellow because I want to be the support and guidance I didn’t have during my adolescent years. I aim to provide our youth with a safe space where they can fully express themselves and be their authentic selves.

Q: How do you recruit students for the program?

A: Our recruiting strategies include using flyers (where scholars can scan a QR code to sign up), offering incentives such as enrichment/community service credits, and making public announcements during lunch, large group settings, and advisory (homeroom).

Q: What are you most looking forward to as a fellow this semester?

A: I’m most looking forward to watching our young ladies develop in all aspects of their lives. With the support and guidance from my co-fellow, myself, and other career-driven individuals our scholars will meet along the way, I believe this experience will foster growth mindsets and strengthen connectedness and community.

Let's Connect and Make an Impact!

At Step Up, we believe in the power of community and collaboration.

We’re looking for organizations that share our vision for empowering underserved communities, women, and those who identify with womanhood. If you know of any CBOs, small businesses, or other local groups that are making a positive impact in your area, we would love to connect

Please send an email to Maya at maya@suwn.org with your recommendations!
