You guid to being a Mentor
Are you a new or experienced mentor wondering what to expect from a Step Up mentorship session? We have you covered! Read on for a list of our current program offerings and the role of a mentor in each of them.

Fly Together
Step Up and Birdies have partnered to offer Fly Together, a series of four mentorship sessions that provide the chance for high school girls and gender-expansive teens to build relationships with peers and mentors and gain leadership skills that will support their career pursuits. As a mentor, you will model participation and share your insights with mentees in breakout groups facilitated by Step Up staff.

Ask Me Anything
Ask Me Anything is a skill-building session guided by industry-leading mentors, focusing on a different career-advancing skill. This program is open to high school girls and gender-expansive teens, young women and gender-expansive young adults, along with mentors from the industry. As a mentor, you will share your advice and insights on the topic of the session in breakout groups facilitated by Step Up staff.

So You Wanna
So You Wanna... provides behind-the-scenes access to industries and experience with the mentors who work there, as part of a commitment to expanding community and connections for young adults. This series is open to young women and gender-expansive young adults, along with the mentors who work in the industry. As a mentor in breakout groups, you will share details about your job and day-to-day duties, your career journey, and any advice you have for someone looking to enter your industry. Prior to the breakout groups, mentees and mentors alike will have the opportunity to listen to a brief panel discussion featuring panelists who will set the stage for exploration of the day's featured industry.

Luminaries Career Coaching
This program pairs one mentor with one young adult aged 18-23 to engage in three career coaching calls over three months. Mentors will be equipped with a guide for each coaching call that will contain best practices, suggested questions, and sample reflections. Matches are made based on career track interest, time zone, and availability.

The Blueprint
The Blueprint is a monthly workshop series that supports mentees as they manage new and greater responsibilities, navigate new environments, and strengthen their growth. As a mentor in breakout groups facilitated by Step Up staff, you will help provide encouragement, share your insights on life after high school, help mentees build connections with fellow participants, and support mentees in crafting a personal blueprint of success.

Additional Mentorship Opportunities
In addition to the virtual programs mentioned above, Step Up members are also invited to engage in the following mentorship opportunities: submit a mentorship video, share your tips on resumes and cover letters, or write a letter to a mentee.

Join the mentorship magic! Step Up's Mentorship App is a space for mentees and mentors to make new connections, learn from self-guided lessons and get access to additional tools like event recordings, videos, and resource guides. Reach out to mentor@suwn.org to get started.

You can find all of our programs here and read about our mentorship model here. Mentors for each program type should already be a member of Step Up or an employee of a company who has partnered with Step Up. You can find out more about membership here.
