Tracey Wilkins is currently our Teen Programs Coordinator based in Los Angeles. She served as the VISTA leader for Step Up’s AmeriCorps programs from 2022-2023 as well as served as a membership development associate and VISTA from 2020-2022. Since beginning her service with Step Up, Tracey has become more aware of the importance of positive representation. Her role includes outreaching to potential members to help create a more diverse network. Tracey received an undergraduate degree from Hope International University, with a contracted major with California State University, Fullerton. During her undergraduate career, she pursued a liberal arts degree with a concentration in communications and emphasis in public relations. The experience taught her the importance of time management by having to balance a busy schedule. After graduation, she became an AmeriCorps member with OneOC, where she helped with the Volunteer Infrastructure Program. Tracey also served another AmeriCorps term with the American Red Cross as the Southern California community education member helping individuals in underserved communities prepare for emergencies. As a Southern California girl, Tracey enjoys spending time outdoors and helping better her community in any way she can. In her free time, Tracey enjoys listening to music and cooking. Tracey hopes her experience with Step Up will help expand her creativity and interpersonal skills to help her continue to contribute to underserved communities.

What has your mentor taught you?
My mother has shaped me into the woman I am today by always being there for me. She has also taught me the importance of perseverance by not giving up when things get tough.
Mentorship supports the work I do at Step Up because I understand how pivotal having an ally can be for developing adolescents throughout all they are navigating that goes along with growing up and exploring career options.
What do you enjoy most about working at Step Up?
The culture and the mission of the organization. I feel great knowing that I am a part of an organization that dedicates its mission to helping better the leaders of tomorrow. I also think it's great that I am involved with an organization run by women who are passionate about helping girls become great women.
