Nashville
Trish Watts serves as the teen programs coordinator for the city of Nashville. As a rare Nashville native, born and raised, she has a passion for the city she grew up in and the culture that still lingers. Throughout her career, Trish has always centered her work in serving the underserved, working in the inner cities of both Memphis and Nashville.
While attending the only HBCU in Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College, Trish was a 2-sport athlete and became a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. After coming back to Nashville to complete her master’s at Belmont University, she knew her purpose would always fall under the umbrella of youth, sports, and/or community. She went on to coach and work at the high school level, and eventually as a coordinator for the grassroots organization, Project Return. In 2020, she returned to the realm of youth services as a community center manager.
Trish values family time and still has Sunday dinner every week with her grandmother and other family members. She loves sports and traveling; and is a neo-soul and 90’s R&B enthusiast. She finds great joy in working in the non-profit sector and hopes to be a resource, mentor, leader, and voice for the young women of Step Up in Nashville.
What has your mentor taught you?
My greatest mentors were and still are my mother and grandmother. They taught me tough love, spiritual guidance, and the importance of community and helping others. They didn’t just speak about character, they showed me what character was. They have been my greatest supporters and teachers through it all, which has taught me to have that same supportive and loving spirit with all the youth I work with.
What do you enjoy most about working at Step Up?
I enjoy that Step Up is not only an all-women-led organization, but it reflects diversity in the face of adversity. I enjoy the comradery and the impact of working in teen programming.
