LOS ANGELES – Step Up announced today that it received a grant of $410,319 from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. The grant, funded through the Volunteer Generation Fund, will support 500 volunteers in delivering transformational, confidence-building programming to Step Up teens in eight cities across the nation. This investment marks Step Up’s second year of federal funding.
AmeriCorps provides support to community organizations to help them alleviate poverty, expand capacity, and build economic opportunity through community-driven efforts across the country. The Volunteer Generation Fund grants will strengthen community-based entities' ability to recruit, manage, and support volunteers. At a time of social need, when people of all ages are looking for ways to give back, AmeriCorps seeks to fund effective approaches that strengthen the capacity and impact of volunteers and invest in innovative volunteer management practices.
With this continued funding, Step Up will leverage the skills and experience of volunteers in cities across the nation to guide young women to their success.
