Coordinator, Teen Programs
First Year of Service
New York City
Maiomie Rohoo is currently the Teen Programs Coordinator for New York City. She works to amplify the voices of our girls and school partners while also maintaining efficiency within our programs.
Maiomie has always found joy working within her community, especially after observing the differences in access to resources in a city like New York. Maiomie is originally from Guyana, and immigrated to the U.S when she was eight years old. She feels connected to the Step Up mission since she is also a first generation college student who credits her own development to participating in various after school programs. Prior to working at Step Up, Maiomie has mainly worked in the education space. She believes access to quality education is key to developing into a confident individual and has worked with many literacy based nonprofits in New York to improve student reading levels. She has also worked with an international education company overseeing groups of international students. Most recently, Maiomie worked at Success Academy Charter School on their operations team, serving as a primary contact for all parents, teachers and students. Maiomie is passionate about providing access to resources and services for young people in order for them to create their own success, whatever that might be.
In her free time, Maiomie enjoys traveling, going on walks, watching movies, and spending time with her niece, Jazmin.
